Melvin died of sarcoma cancer. He was married to the former Angela Wade (also a 1976 alumni).
He left to cherish his memories, in addition to his wife, two daughters, Ma'Kisha and Me'Sharra,
one son Melvin Le'Bryan Patterson. He also had two darling grand-kids that were the apple of his eye, Jalen and Jaedyn Jamison.
