About Me | Cynthia Williams is freelance writer and copy editor whose professional writing career includes creative non-fiction, fiction, narrative history and television copy writing. Her work is popular for its sensual and powerfully visual story-telling style. A native of Tennessee, Cynthia is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a degree in Communications. She studied languages extensively—at UNC, Florida State University, the University of Valencia in Spain, and at Bishop Strachan School in Toronto, Ontario (high school class of 1965). After graduation, Cynthia taught high-school level Spanish, English grammar, literature and creative writing and later, worked in television as a copywriter. Most recently, she was senior staff writer and editor at a Fortune 300 company headquartered in Charlotte, NC. After retiring from corporate employment and returning as a freelance writer to Fort Myers, FL, where she grew up, Cynthia published Hidden History of Fort Myers (2017, The History Press). In 2018, Random House (Alfred A. Knopf Books for Young Readers) published her children’s book, Me and the Sky, a picture book biography of AA Captain Beverley Bass, featured in Cynthia’s 2016 story in the Fort Myers News-Press. “Beverley” is available to readers on Cynthia’s website, “Quo Vadis? Time Traveler,” at www.cyn1020.com, under the category of “History in Cynemascope.” Cynthia has also completed a privately commissioned YA historical novel, titled The River. She is now working on her three-part, psychological-mystery, titled BANYAN, whose fictionalized setting is the historic Burroughs Home in downtown Fort Myers. Though Cynthia returned, in 2019, to her heart’s home in the desert Southwest, she is still a contributor of narrative histories of Fort Myers to the Sunday Tropicalia magazine section of the Fort Myers News-Press and she continues to write feature stories about Cape Coral along with a bi-weekly column in the “Cape Life” section of the News-Press. She will also soon publish a companion book to Hidden History of Fort Myers, titled Narratives of the Impossibly Romantic, Sometimes Comic, Often Improbable History Of Fort Myers, Florida. Narratives is a collection of her feature stories published by the News-P...(read more) |
