Publish in a newspaper Shirley Ann Ayers Vokes passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025 in Kentwood, MI after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 28, 1951 in Quebec, Canada, Shirley's warm spirit and loving nature were apparent from an early age. Shirley had many interests throughout her life. Her passion for gardening and sewing were not just hobbies, but expressions of her creativity and her way of nurturing those around her. Her gardens were a testament to her patience and dedication. As a seamstress, she had a magical touch. Her stitches were reflective of her attention to detail and her desire to spread beauty wherever she could. Above all, Shirley's heart belonged to her family. She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn (Andy) Stein and Kristie (Sean) Cahill; her stepdaughters Jodie (Rick) Vokes-Seese and Laurie (Jerry) Vokes-Jackson; her grandchildren Morgan (Matthew) Fee, Mackenzie (Joel) Collins, Spencer Cahill and Allie Cahill; her great-grandchildren Finley Collins and Rufus Collins; and her sisters Norma Kolotelo and Linda Goraj. She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Shirley's influence extended beyond the confines of her immediate family. Friends, neighbors, and community members felt the warmth of her generous spirit. She has a unique ability to make everyone feel at home. Throughout her battle with cancer, Shirley faced each day with a resilience and grace that inspired many. She remained a beacon of positivity, never allowing her illness to dim the light of her spirit. Her legacy is one of courage, love, and the beauty of a life well-lived. A celebration of Shirley's life will be held at a future date, with her family and friends gathering to honor the extraordinary woman she was. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please make donations to Faith Hospice. |
