She was born on July 27, 1953, the daughter of William and Dorothy Mily. She was a proud 1971 graduate of Fordson High School and Central Michigan University and a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She later obtained a Masters Degree in Teaching at Marygrove College. Her career was devoted to the Dearborn School System for 37 years teaching Home Economics and, predominately, Physical Education at Maples and Woodworth Junior High Schools. She was a Cheerleading and Track Coach and loved all her students. She truly was a dedicated citizen of Dearborn serving on the City Beautiful Commission and participating in the Dearborn Clean-up Parades. She loved working the Dearborn Elections to greet all her Dearborn friends and former students. She was active and worked the early elections up until she was hospitalized. She is survived by her loving sister, Annette (Ray) Duffany and lifelong partner of 30 years, James Mack. She was a 2nd Mom to Jim’s daughters, Katy, Jennifer, Melanie, Lauren, and Sara and loved by her cousin, Doug (Sandy) Mily and their family. She was a lifetime member of the Sokol Detroit Organization where they devoted fitness, health, gymnastics and fund raising activities. Melanie loved life and never liked to miss a party. She would light up a room with her smile and her sparkle. She was a Fashionista. She loved shopping, dining with friends, travelling, and was a collector. Her favorite was Everything Chanel and, in her spirit of loving children, she collected Holiday Santa Bears, Holiday Barbies, and Beanie Babies.
