Ken M. Ralls, 54, of Creston, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at his home in Creston. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2008 at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Chuck Spindler will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. Open visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2008 at Powers Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 PM. Flag presentation will be by the Theodore J. Martens V.F.W. Post #1797 of Creston. Memorials are to the family. Online condolences may be made under the obituary category at www.powersfh.com. Kenneth Michael Ralls was born July 26, 1954 in Detroit, MI. to Geraldine Iris (Keenan) and Kenneth Burns Ralls. He graduated from Fordson High School in Dearborn, MI in 1972 and studied at the Henry Ford Community College. He entered the U.S. Air Force in January of 1973 and was stationed in Arizona, South Carolina and Korea. He first moved to Iowa in 1980, and studied at the Univ. of Northern Iowa. On October 29, 1982, he married Marilyn Kathryn Schmitz in Des Moines. They lived and worked with the Air Force in Michigan, Illinois, the Netherlands, Germany and Georgia. Ken was a Crew Chief on fighters and later did cross training on computers, before retiring in 1995. They next lived in Ankeny and St. Charles, before moving to Creston in 2003. Ken did computer repair in his retirement. Survivors include: his wife Marilyn Ralls of Creston; two daughters: Melissa and Kimberly Ralls, both of Creston; two brothers: James (wife Diane) Ralls of Dearborn, MI; Carl (wife Laurel) Ralls of San Antonio, TX; his father in-law: Leo Schmitz of Grinnell; two sisters-in-law: Mary (husband Kermit) Van Zee and Marcia (husband Jarl) Walters, both of Grinnell; five nieces, seven nephews, one great-nephew and one great-niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law: Dorothy Schmitz, and a brother-in-law, Ronald Graham.
