Thomas graduated from Fordson High School in 1968 in Dearborn, Michigan, and earned degrees from Ferris State, Oakland University and Wayne State University. A teacher for 34 years in Pontiac and Oakland Schools, he wasn't afraid to fight for the things he believed in. "He wanted the best for his teachers; he was a staunch union man," said his boss, Roosevelt Daniel, dean of the Oakland School Technical Campus Northeast Center. "But at the same time, he fought for his students." He taught auto body repair in Pontiac, was president of the teachers union for five years and enjoyed sailing the Great Lakes on his boat, the Sea-Sun Ticket III. His other passion was the Detroit Red Wings, and would often take people to the games. He died of multiple myeloma. Survivors include his brother, Michael, and mother, Eva.
