LA JOLLA
Eugene Ciccarelli, long-time La Jolla, CA resident and native of Dearborn Heights, MI, passed away from heart failure on Sunday, August 29, 2021, at age 70. On to Heaven and into the waiting arms of his Mother and the LORD Jesus. His seat was waiting for him at their traditional Italian Sunday dinner table, and he was welcomed, surrounded in love and comfort by so many family members who had passed before him. A Giant in the boat industry for three decades in San Diego, Newport Beach, and St. Louis. Eugene started his boating career with Mercury Marine, and Nuttall-Styris then became the owner of Perez Cove Marine, President of Newport Pacific, General Manager of Olympic Boat Centers, and Port Arrowhead St. Louis. Honored to have been the recipient of Boat & Motor Dealer's 1987 Dealer of the Year Award and Bayliner's Jack Purcell 1989 Award for Marketing Excellence. His most famous line, "I hate boats" (even though he sold a ton of them), is an example of his incredible sense of humor that made working with him in the boating industry such fun. Using his phenomenal marketing expertise, he also enjoyed great success as principal of Gilfranco Cigar Company. A wonderful mentor to many, his passion for life, to teach and his compassion for all those he met was his greatest gift. His kindness, big heart, cheerfulness, and sensitivity drew others to him. An artistic soul who loved to draw and sculpt before his hands and body were ravaged by excruciating, chronic pain. Before moving to California, he grew up in a loving Italian family in Dearborn Heights, MI. Cherished his three brothers and loved reminiscing on the antics and headaches they and his father caused his wonderful Mother. He was a phenomenal athlete who boxed, wrestled, and played elementary, junior, and senior high school football. Usually the smallest on the team but by far the toughest who played injured whenever necessary. Strong as a bull and fought for life like a prizefighter through heart bypass surgery to the very end, and now he's finally free from chronic pain. Preceded in death by his father Benny, beloved mother Bernie, brothers Ricky and Dino, and his precious Scooter Boy. Eugene is survived by Kathy (his wife and going steady girlfriend of 54 years); his #1 brother and protector Gary (Ann Marie) Ciccarelli; brothers-in-law Dennis, Tom and Timothy McFadden; nephews Joe (Kristen) Ciccarelli, Anthony Ciccarelli, and Christopher William Ball; treasured cousins Tina, Vicky, Mary, Laura, Marie, Susie, Linda, Jim, John, Steve, and Ron; his loving godmother Ida Rea and many faithful friends. In Lieu of flowers, donations in Eugene's name may be made to the ASPCA and Best Friends Animal Society. Celebration of Life services will be held in Dearborn Heights, MI, and San Diego, CA, on a future date to be determined.
