About | Apoian, Gerald M. "Jerry," Gerald Michael Apoian, loving father, husband, brother, and grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at age 65. He was a long time Westport resident, moving here from New York in 1993. Jerry was a selfless provider, and a compassionate and thoughtful leader. He worked tirelessly to ensure the happiness of the family he adored, and who adored him. Jerry was born on November 11, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan to parents of Armenian descent. He learned the values of hard work and devotion to family by witnessing his mother and father's commitment to establishing a better life for their children in America. Like his parents, Jerry put his family before himself, and was unconditionally supportive of their happiness. His warmth and love were felt in abundance at family gatherings, annual Christmas trips to Michigan, and his delight in his three young grandchildren. His tireless work ethic was evident to all who knew him. He took his first job at the age of 7 delivering papers. During his teen years he drove trucks and took other jobs, which allowed him to pay his way through Michigan State University, where he graduated with a B.A. in Communications. Throughout his life he maintained a passion for his work. Following a successful career in advertising with numerous directing and writing credits, he would continue as a production consultant at APR where he worked up until his passing. Like his family, his colleagues loved him for his kindness, patience, humor and gentle manner, and his ability to solve problems while being diplomatic and trustworthy. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Lynn; children, Jay Fitzgerald, Zachary Andrew, and Zoe Marie; sister, Sharon Lee; brother, Richard Charles; and grandchildren, Daniel Matthew, Sinclair Jane, and Joseph Michael. Red was my across the street neighbor and friend for all our lives. He made my life better and I miss him every day. No finer a person you could want as a friend. There are many stories that could be told, most happy, some not so much, however, all of two guys who always cared for each other as brothers in life.
