George's dad was director of the Detroit Police Department Band. George was the first and only fellow student with whom I ever got into a (very brief) fisticuffs with. We were actually fairly good friends - before and after our scuffle. We both played French Horn in the Finney HS Band. Several days before George was murdered, I bought my first French Horn from him/his dad. George's murder shook me - and so many of us - to the core. It was so senseless, sudden and unnecessary. We all lamented that he went off by himself at Cobo, that day meeting his fatal moment alone. George would have graduated with us in 1970.
