Assault Helicopters Platform Started
1967 thru Today
We came out the 134th Assault Helicopter Company at Fort Bragg North Carolina. We were in the 1st Flight Platoon and did all of our training for Vietnam. This 1st Flight Platoon became a lift Platoon re-routed to Korea we did not have a name for this lift Platoon yet. We didn’t have any Officers over the rank of 1-Lt First Lieutenant when we left Fort Bragg. On December 9, 1967 this lift Platoon arrive in Korea with 12 Uh-1D Hueys that is when we meant our Commander Major Robert Oliver and 1st Sergeant Davis. I know we got the name for the lift Platoon after the Blue House Raid we played big part. I think it was about 2 or 3 weeks before we had a name for this lift Platoon. When we were told what our name for the Platoon would be they said we are the 6th Aviation Platoon and to take off our Pocket Patch of the 134th. Our main mission was to add Security to the DMZ and support all of the ROK Army and ROK Marines and the US forces on the DMZ and surrounding areas for Quick Reaction Forces. There was another brick - out of North Korean coming across the East side of the DMZ and because the fence on the East side was not finish yet. This when the Platoon would be split in half the 6th Aviation Platoon would be in both Camp Red Cloud and Camp Page back in January 1968. I was a Helicopter Crew Chief / DoorGunner and Maint Clark in Korea at the same time of the Vietnam War. We were there when the North Korean took the U.S. Navy Ship the USS Peblo and they men and women were Proud in what we did back then. We wore the Black Beret back then and our call sign was the BlackHat. Korea 1967 thru 1969 this 6th Aviation Platoon was the First and only Assault Helicopters in all of Korea at that time.

Reverend William Daniel Addison "Dan"
Class of 1966
Navy, 8 Years
My brother Dan served proudly in the NAVY for 8 years during Viet Nam. He was an Aviation Mechanic Hydrolics on F-4U Phantom EA-6's and EA-6B''s in VAQ-132 in Oakland, Alameda NAS, transferred w/squadron to Oak Harbor, WA, Whidbey Island. Spent many years at sea in SE Asia and other places riding the USS Enterprise, USS Kitty Hawk(Shitty Kitty) and the USS America until he was assigned to NAS Oceania, VA. BCH till he got out. He said "changing to polyester broke his heart and his reason to join and now and to leave"! During his time on ship he volunteered for door gunner duty. Was shot, blown out of guys w/others. Spent time doing covert "things" in different locations tryout SE Asia. Never spoke in detail about his buddies leaving this world to their great rewards.
Married 3 times. First wife is Maxine Harris of Falls Church, divorced. Married a "Filthydelphia"girl w/too many mommie issues before his 3rd and "the love of his life" while attending church in VA. Beach. Married for more than 25 years before he passed away. Dan has 3 children, 2 sons and a daughter. He became a Pentacostal Holiness Churches Pastor in VA in Fredericksburg. Fully ordained and moved back to our childhood home in rural Ohio till his very sad and brutal disease leading to him passing away.
I didn't know my brother well during childhood as he was 7 yrs older but got the chance to get very close with him before Esophageal cancer stole him from our lives. He was a speaker for the Morrow Co. Ohio veterans at their untimely deaths, Memordial Day celebrations and other military sponsored veteran events. All while fighting his final battle and no has a place w/God and all our families and friends we miss so vey much. I miss my brother deeply. He graduated form the old school we knew as Whittier. I have 2 sisters, Mary Addison 69 lives in Richmond and little sister Carol Addison class of 75. 73 class was 1st to graduate at Wolf Trap and 75 was the last year! Streaker! Go figure.
