About | Funeral Services for Kate Hill, 52, of Elk Bend, Idaho, will be 11 a.m. today at Jones & Casey Funeral Home, 501 Lena St., Salmon, Idaho. Kate Ann Hill died July 8, 2005, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Elk Bend. Born Nov. 7, 1952, in Painesville, the third of five children born to Charles and Joyce (Hill) Hill, she grew up in Painesville. She graduated from Fairport Harbor High School with the Class of 1971. She attended college in Pennsylvania for three years before going to work for the Whitey Company. Kate was the supervisor of the inspection department for Precision Valve Manufacturing for 25 years before retiring in 1999. Following their retirement, Kate and her husband, Jerry Phillips, whom she married on Dec. 22, 1978, in Ohio, moved to Elk Bend, Idaho where Kate volunteered as the District Coordinator for the Salmon Champs Special Olympics. She worked part time at the Child Development Center in Salmon. Kate enjoyed outdoor activities that included gardening, hiking, sail boating, canoeing and identifying and photographing wild flowers. While in Elk Bend, she was involved in the Water Board and spent lots of time canning and drying fruits and vegetables from her garden. She always had a great love for her pets and took them everywhere she went. Kate had just started working for Kookaburra Rafting as a cook. Survivors are her daughter Amy (Bob) Berasi of Salmon; mother, Joyce (Jerry) Rutledge of Adell, Iowa; father, Charles Hill of Orr, Minn.; brothers, C. Andrew (Diane) Hill of Huron and Douglas Hill of Anchorage, Alaska; sisters, Marjorie (Laurence) Bruen of Fayette, Maine, Louise (David) Kloss of Fairport Harbor; and nieces and nephews, Kristen, Colin, Dawn, Amanda, Laurence, Nicholas and Jonathan. She also leaves her ex-husband, Jerry Phillips of Salmon. She was preceded in death by her grandparents. The family suggests memorial contributions to Special Olympics at Salmon Champs, 8426 Fairview Ave., Boise, Idaho 83704. |
