About Mass of a Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday for Paula L. Gavelda at St. Anthony of Padua, 523 Plum St., Fairport Harbor.

Ms. Gavelda passed away Nov. 21, 2009.

Born Aug. 12, 1955, in Painesville, she was raised in Fairport Harbor.

She was a graduate of Fairport Harding High School. An avid distance runner, she had run dozens of marathons and was working toward a goal of running a marathon in all 50 states; she was an annual participant and fund-raiser in the Susan B. Komen 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk. She was also a talented artist with many works in watercolor, oil and pencil. A loyal Indians, Browns and Cavaliers fan, she traveled to many cities to follow the teams.

Ms. Gavelda worked for many years at the Moose Lodge in Painesville and the Highwater Tavern in Fairport Harbor.

She was the beloved daughter of Patricia Gavelda Mackey of Painesville; beloved sister of Pamela (John) Hummer of Bainbridge Township, John Gavelda of Fairport Harbor, Peggy (Timothy) Readey of Playa Del Rey, Calif., Patricia Gavelda of Durango, Colo.,Penny (Michael) Okabe of Buena Park, Calif., Paulette Vantrease of Findlay; Michael Gavelda of Fairport Harbor and Thomas Gavelda of Fairport Harbor; stepsister of Carole Pohto of Painesville and Kenneth (Bonnie) Mackey of Perry; favorite aunt to nieces and nephews, Courtney Heise, Justin Clavin, Patrick Clavin, Benjamin Gavelda, JP Hummer, Jacob Gavelda, Callista Vantrease, Kyra Vantrease, Terree Okabe, Nicholas Okabe, Stephen Heise and Layla Heise; niece to Fred Cashmere, Julius "Butch" Hepner, Mary Shetina, James and MaryAnn Gavelda, James "Lee" and Margaret Cardina; dear cousin to Karen (Martin) Makela, Kathy Hansen, Phillip (Jennifer) Cashmere, Dennis Hepner, Diane (Craig) Anderson, Veronica (Phillip) Bickel, MaryJo Kohr, Jeanne (Stanley) Dobrzeniecki, Cynthia Tilson, James Gavelda, Tina Presley and Laurie Docktor; and special friend of Scott Harter. She was survived by many other relatives and friends as well.

She was also the beloved daughter of John P. Gavelda and Allan "Beanie" Mackey; and niece to Audrey Cashmere, Marsha Hepner and John Shetina (all deceased).

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 312 Eagle St., Fairport Harbor. The Rev. Peter Mihalic of the church will officiate.
