Karl Joseph Bremer, born July 12, 1950, in Dayton Ohio, passed away October 18, 2023, at Hospice of Dayton. He is survived by his wife Cynthia (Thompson-Stern), stepdaughter Susanne Clark, stepsons Patrick, Michael and Sean Stern, his sister Jean (Ted) Fisher, grandsons Alexander Stern, Lucas and Colin Clark, granddaughters Miranda Betz, and Sophie Stern, nephews Timothy and Daniel Fisher, and many other cherished family members. Karl was proceeded in death by his mother Martha (Bunnell) Bremer and his father Charles W. Bremer, his aunts Charlotte (Bunnell) Dooley and Mary (Bunnell) Funkhouser, and uncle Richard Bremer.

Karl was a graduate of Wright State University earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education. Throughout his thirty-seven-year teaching career in Kettering schools, he taught at Barnes Middle School, Fairmont High School, and the Fairmont Career Technology Center. He coached track and field and cross-country teams during his tenure as well as served as manager of WKET, the student led radio and tv station. Honored with many awards throughout his career, Karl was greatly loved by his students and colleagues. Following his retirement, Karl was enshrined in the Kettering Fairmont Hall of Fame in 2013. Karl never valued accolades as much as the impact he had on the many people he taught and mentored throughout his career. Marrying later in life, he was equally devoted to and warmly embraced his role of husband, stepfather and grandparent to the family he loved dearly. Karl was a rare person who loved and accepted people without judgment, and always helped others selflessly. Karl will be missed deeply by his friends and family. Service to be announced later. Classmate Memories

Truey one of my favorite teachers, first at Barnes and then later at Fairmont West. I've often thought about him over the years, usually within the context of "he wasn't much older than the students when he began teaching." I remember he was a great sport when we teased him about his AMC Pacer. He was always so gentle and kind, always able to see the good in his students.
