KAYS, James Grant (Jimmy) Jimmy Kays, a well-known local singer & songwriter died on Sunday, April 19, 2009. He was born in Lexington, KY on Sept 17, 1946. His musical talent was apparent early in his life. He was drum major for Lexington’s Lafayette High School band. He was also the drum major for the University of Louisville. After graduation, he enlisted with the Air Force & became the first featured vocal soloist for the Air Force Band of Flight at WPAFB. After his tour he became Band Director at Bellbrook High School & later served as Band Director at Fairmont High School. Jimmy performed country music throughout the area as a solo act & as a part of various bands he organized. Two of his more notable pieces were "The Peanut Butter Kid" written for his infant niece, Annie; & "Fire in the Hole", which honored his Kentucky heritage. Most recently Jimmy worked in the furniture department of Elder-Beerman, in Middletown & more recently at the Fairfield Mall. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, James & Dellas Kays. He is survived by his sister & brother-in-law, Mary Lynn & Brian Bergsten, a niece, Annie Molnar, & a nephew, Paul Bergsten. The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 30th at 11:00 am at the Dayton National Cemetery. Arrangements in care of SWART FUNERAL HOME, W. Carrollton.
