FUNCK, Leah of Heartland of Kettering passed away Saturday March 13. She attended Muskingum College and Ohio State University, graduating with a Master’s degree in education. In 1976 she retired from 51 years of teaching. She was an instructor of English and Speech at Fairmont High School for 40 of those years and served as Chair of the English Department. Her students frequently competed in district, state and national competitions. After she retired she served as a judge in forensics. In 1975 she was named Kettering Citizen of The Year for her excellence in teaching. She was inducted into the Kettering Education Hall of Fame in 1976 and received the distinguished service to Education National Speech Award in 1982. She is survived by her God daughter Sandra Grice Shultheis (David) of McMinnville, OR; and many friends. At her request there will be no service.
