CDR Francis Hugh Magee USN (Ret.)
Class of 1952
CDR Magee joined the U.S. Navy after graduation from Fairfield Ludlowe in 1952. In July 1958, upon completion of flight training, he recieved his wings & commission as Ensign USN. During his 22 year career, CDR Magee flew over 4,000 hours off 5 Navy aircraft carriers in the A-4 Skyhawk jet strike aircraft.
Flying from the Carriers USS RANGER & USS CONSTELLATION, he completed 247 combat missions during the Vietnam War in 1966 & 1967. On June 25, 1966, he was shot down & wounded in the vicinity of Vinh, North Vietnam and was rescued by helicopter.
During the war, CDR Magee was awarded 3 Distinguished Flying Crosses, 23 Air Medals, and the Purple Heart Medal. He retired from the Navy with the rank of Commander on 1 August 1974.
