Harry Leo Heckethorn, age 72, of Fairfield, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019, at his home.
Celebration of Life service will be 2:00 pm, March 2, 2019, at the Fairfield VFW. Burial of cremains will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family and mailed to Julie Cook, 152 Carter Avenue, Ottumwa, IA 52501.
Harry was born July 26, 1946, to Mervin and Bessie (Schultz) Heckethorn. He married Lois “Jackie” Dill on December 18, 1965 and later divorced.
Harry served in the US Army. After the service he was a self-employed construction worker.
He was a life long member of the VFW and Eagles. Some of Harry’s interests were playing cards, reading and doing crossword puzzles. He was a Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. Most important to Harry was his spending time with family, friends and his dog, Ringo.
Harry is survived by his children, Julie (Kirk Condon) Cook of Ottumwa, Jodie Heckethorn, Ronnie Heckethorn and Randy Heckethorn all of Fairfield; 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren now and two coming this year; his siblings, Jean (John) Spalla, Elmer (Patty) Heckethorn, Dick (Audrey) Heckethorn, Bub (Sally) Heckethorn and Kathy (Cliff) Winland; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Joey Heckethorn; and son-in-law Renny Cook, special dog “Bella”.
