Lewis Christian Heghin, son of Lewis A. and Gladys M. (Johnson) Heghin, was born August 12, 1946 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After several moves his family moved to Iowa and settled in Fairfield where Lewis graduated from Fairfield High School in 1964.
Following graduation, Lew attended Iowa State University in Ames where he graduated from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences with a degree in Microbiology and Plant Pathology in 1968. He later continued his education and received his Masters Degree.
Lew was employed as popcorn breeder for McHone Seed Company, working in seed corn production and development. He also had test plots in South America as well as in the southern United States where he was perfecting popcorn seed, especially designed for theater popcorn.
Lew enjoyed visiting the Garst family in Coon Rapids for holiday dinners and visiting about seed developments.
After retiring, Lewis moved to Emmetsburg where he lived with his parents. He was a great help to them in their later years. Lewis passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at his home in Emmetsburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis A. in 2000 and Gladys in 2005.
He is survived by cousins, other relatives and friends.
