HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP — A head-on crash on Route 31 last week left one person dead and another seriously injured, police said.
Hopewell police, firefighters and emergency medical services responded to Route 31 south of Route 612 shortly after 6 p.m. July 16 when they received a report of a motor vehicle crash.
A Honda Accord driven by Harry Foster, 76, of Ewing, was traveling south on Route 31 when it crossed the center line and collided with a Volvo S60 traveling in the northbound lane, police said.
Foster was extricated from his car and taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
The driver of the Volvo — Elaine Rudolph, 63, of Egg Harbor — was also taken to Capital Health with serious injuries, police said.
The accident shut down Route 31 for about two hours between Routes 612 and 654.
The crash remains under investigation by Hopewell police and the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office.
