Roger Sweeney Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vincent Funeral Home - Providence Forge on Jul. 28, 2026.
Roger Dale Sweeney Sr., 83, of Mechanicsville, Virginia, formally of Clinchco, Virginia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on July 25, 2026.

He was born to Palmer Sweeney Sr., and Gladys Sweeney on July 2,1943. He was number four of the seven original Sweeney boys: Larry, Kenneth, Dennis, Palmer, Micheal and Jerry. He grew up in the historic coal mining town of Clinchco, then moved to Richmond when he turned eighteen. In February of 1964, he met the love of his life, Carolyn, on a blind date. Three short months later, they were married on June 5,1964.

He is survived by his beautiful wife, Carolyn; his three loving children, Dale (Laurie), Rebecca (Davis), and Shaun (Heather); his seven grandkids Brittany, Taylor, Bethany, Madison, Brooke, Dylan, and Dalton; his eight greatgrandkids Stella, Jessa, Judah, Finley, Sloan, Silas, Evie, and Annie. In addition, Roger is remembered by many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss him. His impact is evident and far reaching.

If you had the privilege to know Roger, you'd know his faith was the foundation upon which he lived his life. He had formerly been a member of Glendale Community Bible Church and presently a member at Deliverance Church. He loved to share the gospel and sing hymns to Jesus. Alongside his faith, he found joy in hunting and fishing, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and above all else, being surrounded by his family. The Rappahannock River will forever be his home away from home. The memories created there with his family will last through generations.

His love for Jesus and fishing collide in this verse, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." Matthew 4:19. As we remember Roger, he would want us to always remember to be fishers of men.

His celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Glendale Community Bible Church, 8151 Warriner Rd, Henrico VA, 23231. The family will receive friends an hour prior to services. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Flowers may be sent to Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge VA, 23140.
