About Me | Carolyn Munnoch here Lu’s sister. I am wanted to share with you her obituary (which she wrote herself). March 19, 1962 – October 5, 2020 I was born in Caracas, Venezuela, grew up all over the world and died in Gosford of Triple Negative Breast Cancer on 5 October, 2020. I moved around a lot as a kid, went to a bunch of different Grade Schools, a couple of High Schools and a couple of Universities (University of Toronto, Queens and OCAD). I loved to travel as a result. I loved reading and anything to do with the written word. I was the kid in the library at lunch time, reading age inappropriate books. I loved art, and drew on anything and everywhere. I was a bit of an autodidact – despite getting an English Literature degree from the University of Toronto, and a Commercial Design qualification from OCAD, I ended up working with computers and IT. I was a secret nerd – if I could figure out how to bend a computer to my bidding, then I was hooked. I had a number of careers – bartender, stock broker, technical writer and finally managed to parley my big mouth and even bigger personality into a job teaching people how to use various aspects of computers – from hardware to software. I moved to Australia in my 30’s from Canada, despite having never even visited the place – they spoke English and it was warm – that was good enough for me. I was never overly focused on reality. I divorced and then remarried and had two of the best daughters any human being could ask for. It pains me greatly that I will not see them turn out to be the ass-kicking women I know that they will be. World watch out – the Munnoch Anderson Girls are coming! The best times of my life were spent with my kids and I don’t regret a single Netball morning, homework fight, tantrum over hair, or long heart to heart. I was loud, brash and unfiltered. You either loved me or you hated me – not many people spent time in between. I had the best friends any woman could have, from all over the world. I loved nothing better than to go out with my friends and solve the world’s problems over a bottle or 3 of wine. I spoke my opinion whether you asked for it or not, and I confess to a bitchy-streak a mile wide. I loved to make my friends laugh. I loved good wine, dark chocolate and ribald jokes. I started a web forum for Mothers who needed to find support when I had my first daughter, and the women I met online, were the finest women anywhere. They were true friends and I know they will continue to look out for my girls and help them grow up. I had a wonderful family life – my father Keith and my mother Elizabeth were tough but (mostly) fair and although I was a teenage nightmare, I cannot thank them enough for giving me a solid foundation upon which to make my mistakes. And I made a bunch. I struck out on my own at 19, knowing everything and learned how little I knew, the older I got. I am proof positive that good parenting will win out over teenage stupidity. Dad, it was me that took the golf cart on the course at Eleanor’s wedding. And sorry for the tattoos, Mum, they seemed like a fantastic idea at the time. I have three wonderful sisters – Eleanor, Carolyn and Sandra. One of my deepest regrets is having moved so far away from them that I denied them the chance to get to know me as a person, not just the insufferable know-it-all big sister. Still, we managed a few escapades. Oh, and I’m sorry for all the times I tied up one or more of my sisters with skipping rope and stuck them in a closet so they’d stop pestering me. And all the medical experiments I conducted on their toys. And all the times I insisted they get drunk with me, just because I felt like raising hell and wanted company. Eleanor, I’m sorry for the scene outside the house in London (You know which one.). Sandra, I’m sorry I told you that you were adopted. And Carolyn, the trip to Paris and the one sock/ Pernod toothpaste/soda bottle fight in Paris was epic and shall live on in infamy through the ages. I love you all very much. I have four cousins and uncle and Aunt in Canada who I love like my own family. They were incredibly supportive throughout my battle with cancer, and never let my head get too far up my own ass. I owe them many bright moments that made it all more bearable. My two daughters, Charlotte and Alexandra were my reason for getting up in the morning, and the reason I fought as long and as hard as I did. Girls, you were the light of my life, and I regret nothing about you. Grow up into the fine women I know you will be, and remember, your education is everything, and you don't need a man to make you happy. If you knew me or not, dear reader, I am happy you got this far into my letter. I speak as a person who had a great life to look back on. I enjoyed one good life. I traveled to every place on earth that I ever wanted to go and made all my mistakes willingly. Life is worth living, and enjoy every minute of it, live...(read more) |
