About | Jerry Leon McDonald ( October 07, 1944 - October 29, 2019 ) Jerry Leon McDonald, age 75, passed away on Tuesday October 29, 2019 at Haven Hospice in Orange Park, FL. A funeral service will be held to celebrate his life at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday November 5, 2019 in Southpoint Baptist Church, with Dr. Terry N. Collins officiating. Visitation will be held for the hour prior to service. The family will also receive friends for visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday November 4, 2019 in George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., S. A Jacksonville native, Jerry was born here on October 7, 1944 to Samuel E. McDonald & Elsie Marie Ruis McDonald, the last of eight children. He was a graduate of Englewood High School, Class of 1962 & a member of the “First Rams” Club, comprised of the first classes to go through all 4 years of Senior High School at Englewood. Jerry was a joint owner of Concrete Coatings, Inc., a decorative concrete company, located in Jacksonville, FL for 17 years. He enjoyed working in his yard, tending his plants & flowers and spending time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed family trips to Disney with his granddaughter Alysa. Jerry was a member of the Arlington Masonic Lodge #309. He very much enjoyed researching and documented over 17 generations of the McDonald family ancestry. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his seven siblings Roy McDonald (Genelda), Ralph McDonald (Evelyn), Marie Allen (Joseph), Ray McDonald (Joyce), Clifton McDonald (Pauline), Nathaniel Hurst & Jeanette Thurman (Jones). He is survived by his beloved & devoted wife, Joyce D. McDonald; his daughter,Barbara Lyn Cochran (Charles); his granddaughter, Alysa Erin Cochran; a sister-in-law, Lettie Hurst and by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jerry’s honor to the "Building Fund" or "Mission's Fund" at Southpoint Baptist Church, 3335 Tiger Hole Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32216.
