Amie McMillan
Class of 2004
After graduating high school, Amie worked 3 jobs and volunteered at a hospital. About a year after graduation, she decided that she would serve her country by joining the Army.
In August 2005, she shipped off to Basic Combat Training (boot camp) and began her 2 months of rigorous combat training to prepare her for war. Upon graduating BCT in October 2005, she was sent to complete her 4 months of Advanced Individual Training. Her goal since the 8th grade was to become a journalist. The Army gave her the opportunity to choose the job she wanted based on her ASVAB score. She chose to learn journalism. (46Q- Public Affairs Specialist)
In May of 2006, she was sent to her first duty station-- Fort Lewis, Washington. She is currently writing articles and taking photos for the post newspaper and also her unit she's in.
Amie has accomplished one of her life goals-- to become a journalist. How many people at the age of 21 are actually working their dream jobs? Probably not that many. She is currently preparing for deployment to Iraq in the near future and said she can't wait to get over there. The only things that scare her are the family and friends she will have to leave behind and how they will react to knowing that she's over in the "war zone".
