About When one considers the traits inherent to a great man, integrity, moral-character, and compassion immediately come to mind. Sadly, the world lost one of its most stalwart purveyors of these qualities early in the morning on January 16th when Steven "Steve" Kaneski defiantly succumbed to a sudden onset, aggressive form of Leukemia. He was 55 years old. Steve is survived by his father, James Kaneski, his mother, Bonnie Kaneski, his three beloved children, Mason, Aidan and Scarlet, and his sister, Kelly Kaneski. Steve was born in Yuma, AZ into an Air Force Family. He lived in Japan, Alabama, and Mississippi before ultimately settling in Elk Grove, CA in 1972. Steve attended Elk Grove High School, graduated from Arizona State University and went on to receive his Master of Science in Financial Services at The American College. He began his financial career at Kidder Peabody and then transitioned to New York Life Insurance Company in 1989. Steve was an agent with the Northern California General Office of New York Life for 28 years, though it was early in his career that he became a legend nationwide within the company. For 23 consecutive years, he was recognized as one of the top-ten agents company-wide for New York Life. He was the 2008 New York Life Council President, an honor bestowed upon the highest achiever amongst thousands of agents across the United States. He was Chairman of the Advisory Board of Directors for a record three consecutive years. Steve loved to share knowledge, and he strived to give as much as he was given. He was often called on by New York Life to speak nationally about his successful practice, and he held workshops to teach other agents his unique process. He was a featured contributor for U.S. Money News, CBS news, and many other publications. Steve was a participant in life; he craved excitement and was a travel enthusiast. He was a collector of fine things and was known for his appreciation and collection of exotic cars. He was an avid skier. He loved to fish in Alaska and hunt in Texas. Steve placed huge importance on friendship, but the most important thing in Steve's life were his children. Steve absolutely cherished them and never missed an opportunity to humbly boast of their many successes in life. He lived a large, full life that had a significant impact on all those who knew him. A funeral service will be held in Sacramento, CA at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament on Fri., February 9th at 9:30 a.m., followed by a reception nearby at The Grand ballroom. In lieu of flowers, the Kaneski family requests that donations be sent to your local chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the Serotonin Surge Charities. - Information from the Sacramento Bee
