About Elliott Martin Olson was born on February 8, 1921 on a farm near Soldier, Iowa to Edward and Mabel (Klasketrt) Olson. He was confirmed in the Soldier Valley Lutheran Church in 1936. He graduated from Moorhead High School in 1939 where excelled in debate. He attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska. There he resided and worked at the County Hospital, and had fight instruction at the local airport. He was drafted in to the Army July, 1942 and received pre-flight and flight instruction in Oxnard, California, Texas, Tucson, and Phoenix, Arizona where he graduated in single engine aircraft. He was assigned to Kingman, Arizona as a flight pilot gunnery instructor for the remainder of WWII. A Veteran’s Banner in Elliott’s honor is now being displayed on Civic Center Drive, Elk Grove, California.

Elliott graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa in March, 1947 and the University of South Dakota School of Law in Vermillion, South Dakota in February, 1942. At USD he met and married Jean Powell. They lived in Sioux City until moving to Sacramento, California in May, 1952. He was the first and only claims adjuster for Allstate Insurance until September 1953 when he started teaching ay Armijo High School in Fairfield, California. He was engaged in private Law Practice in South Dakota 1955-1957. He then returned to teaching at Nevada Union High School in Nevada City, California, at Elk Grove High School in 1961, and Valley High School in 1977 from which he retire in 1981. He was head of the Social Studies department and active in Faculty Forum at EGHS and President and Executive Secretary of the Elk Grove Education Association for several years.

After retirement Elliott was active at the Senior Center of Elk Grove helping serve meals and distributing Brown Bag food donations. He enjoyed motorcycle riding with the “Over the Hill Gang” weekend trips, the Plaza Park Drive Coffee Club, and being Mr. Fix-it in his shop. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Elliott is survived by his wife Jean of 65 years; his children David and Brian Olson and Eileen Delaney; his grandchildren Elizabeth Olson, Megan Hitchcock, Emma Lea, and Steven and Sarah Delaney; his great-grandchildren Jaclynn and Jesse Lea and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his daughter Rita Olson, his grandson Michael Delaney, his parents Ed and Mabel Olson, his brothers Leo and Maynard Olson; his sister Eleanor McCall, his niece Linda Smith, his nephews Roger McCall, Larry, Randy, and Craig Olson, and several cousins.
