About	August 25, 2017 May Takeuchi, 92, passed away peacefully at home on August 25, 2017 with her family by her side. She is survived by her daughter Susan Schmid (John); son Kevin Takeuchi; brother George Ogawa (Taye); sisters Jane Matsueda (Jim) and Ruth Ogawa; sisters-in-law Dorothy Takeuchi and Masa Takeuchi; and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Duke; son Douglas; parents Harumatsu and Haruno Ogawa; and sister Agnes Seki (Kay). May was born and raised in Sacramento and lived in the community all of her life. She attended Sierra Enterprise Grammar School and Elk Grove Union High School before being relocated with her family under Executive Order 9066 to an Indian reservation in Poston, Arizona where she was interned during World War II. After the war May attended the Norwegian American School of Nursing in Chicago where she earned her degree and became a licensed registered nurse. Returning to Sacramento in 1947 she married Duke in June. She worked as a nurse at Mercy Hospital for a year before her first child was born. After raising her three children May returned to work as a nurse in a doctor's office. She ended her career working for the State of California's Employment Development Department. May loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. As a lifelong and dedicated member of Mayhew Baptist Church she sang in the choir for many years and active in the women's group. She and Duke were ardent supporters of the Poston Memorial Monument Project and served for many years on the committee to ensure its continued support and maintenance. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 16th at 2 pm, Mayhew Community Baptist Church, 3401 Routier Road, Sacramento 95827.
