Graduation Year Class of 1961
Date of Passing Jun 21, 2017
About Russell Lewis passed peacefully, surrounded by family on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at his home in Wilton. Russell was born September 30, 1943, and was the son of Mary and Edward Lewis. He lived his entire life in Elk Grove. When Russell was young, his family lived on a dairy farm on Bruceville Road, where he helped raise cows and was actively involved in the FFA. Russell graduated from EGHS class of 1961. He enjoyed working on cars, and driving fast. His first job was working for the late Bob Batey, at his Chevrolet dealership. Russell got into drag racing and was the last driver for the Masters and Richter Special, setting many records on the race track, until a tragic accident nearly killed him. Russ was a jack of all trades, and could build, fix, weld and paint anything. He owned and operated Lewis Auto Service for many years, and ran a well-known trusted business. He was an active community member, offering his automotive shop for the building and construction of Soap Box Derby cars in the 70’s and 80’s. He was equally proud to sponsor and play on a men’s softball league during the late 80’s. Russ also enjoyed the sport of trapshooting, and bird hunting, and loved his many rescued pets over the years. Later, Russell enjoyed the hobby of beekeeping, which soon became a full time job, as his bees became desirable for local and not so local growers. Russell’s honeybees led him to start the Lewis Honey Company.

Russell was known by many, and had friends from all walks of life. He was a daredevil, and liked a good challenge. He supported the Sacramento Chapter 81, and enjoyed participating in the motorcycle runs on his Harley Davidson. He had a way of impacting people, and was one of a kind. He was known to be generous, and had a wonderful sense of humor. His joke telling, silly pranks and shenanigans will be greatly missed by the love of his life Jenny Mullins, her family, and his lifesaver, Michele. As well as many, many close friends. He is survived by his three daughters, Debra Masters (Dusty), Kathy Masters (Danny), Toni Brown (Donnie), six grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. In addition, to numerous other family members, including his closest cousins Bob, Dennis, and Art Hill. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of his life on Saturday, July 22, 2017, starting at 5:00 PM at the Mahon Ranch, located at 10171 Grant Line Road. - Information from the Elk Grove Citizen
