About | Don Glavich (EGHS '54) of Sacramento and formerly of Elk Grove passed away at Bruceville Terrace in Sacramento on March 16, 2017, due to dementia and other complications. He passed away two days before his 81st Birthday. Last March, a celebration was given by his family for his 80th birthday and 60th wedding anniversary. Don was married to his high school sweetheart JoAnn Baroni (EGHS '56) and they remained married for almost 61 years. He was 17 when he met the 15-year-old JoAnn at Elk Grove High School, and the rest was history. They have four loving and caring children, and six grandchildren. After high school graduation, Don was employed by Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. and he stayed there for 37 years. Over the years, he was promoted to the next to top position of district manager and earned the title of "Salesman of the Year.” He was the only person at that time earning the title two years in a row before his retirement. Don went on to work as a school bus driver for the Sacramento City School District. He then became a bus attendant. Retirement came again in 2014 when he began having memory issues. Don was the son of George Glavich and Uleta (Look) Glavich. His siblings were Clarice Jonson (Art) of Courtland, Melvin Glavich, and George Glavich Jr. Don was also the son-in-law of Sheriff's Deputy Louis Baroni (Emma) of Elk Grove. Missing him deeply with broken hearts are his daughters Karla Niemeyer (Dan) of Nebraska and Karin Potter of Sacramento; and his sons Kerry Donald Glavich (Josie) of Sacramento and Kevin Glavich (Brenda) of Elk Grove. His grandchildren are Taylor Johnson- USAF of Nebraska, Joshua (Michelle) Niemeyer, Daniel Niemeyer, and Hannah Niemeyer of Nebraska, Drew Glavich of Japan, and Megan Glavich of Sacramento. He also had numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 29 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 8720 Florin Road, Sacramento. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. with a reception/lunch following in the Church Hall. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Aid Society of Northern California, P.O. Box 60095, Sacramento, CA, 95860-0095, and they can be contacted at (916) 483-2002. Funds are for Alzheimer's and other reversible dementias. Or you may donate to a charity of your choice. The family sincerely appreciates the many friends and family, the telephone calls, and visits that showed their love, support, and encouragement. Also thanks and appreciation for the wonderful care he received at Bruceville Terrace. Their dignity and professional loving care was always their priority, not only to Don but also for the comfort to the family. - Information from the Elk Grove Citizen |
