About | Barbara Ann Mayberry, member of a long established Elk Grove family died Sept. 9, 2016 after a lengthy struggle with cancer. Her roots go back to early settlers of Elk Grove and Franklin, and roads and parks in the area bear the family names of Mooney and Bilby. She was the granddaughter of Tom Karamanos, well known businessman in Elk Grove and one of the first leaders of the Elk Grove Chamber of Commerce. Her family was involved in agriculture in the Elk Grove area for many years in the dairy and cattle business. Barbara was born Oct. 24, 1954 in Sacramento to Harriet and Chris Mooney and graduated from Elk Grove High School in 1972. She received her Associate of Arts degree at Cosumnes River College and embarked on a successful 35-year career in the banking industry, which included management and vice president positions notably with Sacramento Commercial Bank, Cal Net Bank, Granite Community Bank, Folsom Lake Bank, and finished her career at Merchants National Bank of Sacramento. Her family said that Barbara lived her life to the fullest, enjoying boating, hiking, traveling, fine dining, wine tasting, and rides to the coast, mountains and any beautiful place. Growing up, she enjoyed and was recognized for her abilities in showing dairy cattle. She also enjoyed stays and long walks at Dillon Beach. “A special passion and talent of Barbara’s was cooking and preparing exquisite meals for her family and friends. She traveled with her husband, Jerry on many occasions to Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, the Bahamas and Mexico. Words cannot express the loss to all who knew and loved her.” Barbara is survived by her husband Jerry; parents Harriet and Chris Mooney of Blachly, Ore.; brother Chris Mooney Jr. (Ellen) also of Blachly; sister Donna Kinion (Don) of Pasco, Wash.; stepdaughter Deborah La Porte (Robert) of Foresthill; stepson Dan Mayberry (Ro) of Breckenridge, Colo.; grandsons Matthew and Daniel La Porte; and by numerous relatives and longtime friends. She was preceded in death by her stepson Robert Mayberry. Family and friends are welcome to attend a visitation on Sunday, Sept. 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. followed by a rosary service at 6 p.m. at Andrews & Greilich Funeral Home, 3939 Fruitridge Road, Sacramento. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 660 Florin Road with a reception immediately following. Graveside services will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park, 4300 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento. Barbara is survived by her beloved husband, Jerry Mayberry; parents, Harriet and Chris Mooney of Blachly, OR; brother Chris Mooney Jr. (Ellen) of Blachly, OR; sister, Donna Kinion (Don) of Pasco, WA; stepdaughter, Deborah La Porte (Robert) of Foresthill, CA; stepson, Dan Mayberry (Ro) of Breckenridge, CO; grandsons, Matthew and Daniel La Porte; and by numerous loving relatives and dear longtime friends, too many to list. She was preceded in death by her stepson Robert Mayberry. Barbara was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, stepmother, grandmother, aunt, niece, cousin and friend, who was admired and loved by all. Barbara graduated from Elk Grove High School in 1972, and received an Associate of Arts degree at Cosumnes River College. Barbara enjoyed a successful 35-year career in the banking industry, which included management and Vice President positions notably with Sacramento Commercial Bank, Cal Net Bank, Granite Community Bank, Folsom Lake Bank, and finishing her career at the Merchants National Bank of Sacramento. She was highly respected for her knowledge, dedication and strong work ethic. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, 10:00 AM, September 19, 2016, at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church, located at 660 Florin Road, Sacramento, CA 95831, with a reception immediately following. A graveside service will follow the reception at East Lawn Memorial Park, located at 4300 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95819. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the UC Davis Medical Center or toward cancer research.
