About | Diana Hoppe Roundtree, a former resident of the Point Pleasant area of Elk Grove died May 31, 2016 in Seattle, Wash., following a six-month battle with leukemia. She was 71. She was born Sept. 1, 1944 in Sacramento to Walter and Johanna (Schmidt) Hoppe of Elk Grove and grew up in Point Pleasant, attending Franklin Elementary School and graduating from Elk Grove High School in 1962. An accomplished artist, she studied under Gregory Kondos at Sacramento City College and received an Associate of Art degree in 1965. After completing her degree, she married David Roundtree in 1966, living briefly in Hawaii before returning to the Sacramento area and, ultimately moving to Sparks, Nev. They divorced in 1984. Diana lived in Nevada for over 20 years before relocating in the late 1990s to the Pacific Northwest, where she lived on San Juan Island, in Bellingham, Wash., and since 2009, in Seattle. She worked as a graphic artist in Sacramento and Reno where she won several awards for her paintings and drawings. Her family said that her artwork reflected her appreciation of simple beauty, combined with the care and attention to detail she showed in all aspects of her life. “She also enjoyed genealogy, and dedicated great effort to tracing and reconnecting with relatives from her family’s ancestral homeland in Germany, as well as creating detailed histories of her own family in Point Pleasant. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Nema Hoppe Wise. Diana is survived by her sons, Christopher Roundtree of Torrey, Utah, and Gary Roundtree of Seattle; sister Joan Roper of Elk Grove; brothers Walter Hoppe also of Elk Grove and John Hoppe of Sacramento; daughter-in-law Kristi Roundtree of Seattle; grandchildren Colin and Kate Roundtree also of Seattle and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 18 at 10:30 a.m. at Point Pleasant United Methodist Church, 3329 Point Pleasant Road off Franklin Boulevard, where selected art works from her career will be on display.
