| About | SMART, Steven Michael - On the evening of October 25th, 2014, Steve passed away peacefully after a valiant two year battle with cancer, in the loving presence of his sister and brother. Steve was 60 years old. Steven Michael Smart was born in Minneapolis Minnesota on Nov. 30th, 1953. Steve was preceded in death by his father Harold Smart and is survived by his mother Florence Smart, his sister Susan Smart Kossack (Tom) of Elk Grove, his brother Stuart Smart (Robin) of Danville and his nieces and nephews Catherine and Chris Kossack, and Ryan, Nicole and Parker Smart. Steve grew up in Elk Grove, Ca and was a graduate of the EGHS class of 1972 and earned his Bachelor's from CSUS in Social Science. Mr. Steve, as the kids called him, loved working at Florence Markofer and Charles Mack in the EGUSD for the past 17 years. Mr. Steve was known for his kindness and generous spirit of giving and caring. Steve enjoyed sports and was a lifelong fan of the SF Giants and attended many games. His favorite saying was "Go Giants!". He enjoyed reading, building models, running and he loved to bowl and won many trophies. After recovering from chemotherapy last summer Steve visited his favorite place, Disneyland, twice! Steve's family gives special thanks for the tender loving care and support of his extended family and friends. They are also grateful to the many Sutter Hospital Doctors, nurses, staff and Hospice Team who cared for Steve. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Nov. 14th at 3:00 pm at St Joseph's in Elk Grove, reception immediately following. Steve will be interned at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi, Ca.
