About	Published: Monday, July 28, 2014 1:50 PM PDT Retired firefighter Steven Richard Horning, longtime resident of the Galt and Elk Grove areas died July 21 at the age of 57. Steve was born March 13, 1957 in Sacramento and grew up in Elk Grove, graduating from Elk Grove High School in 1975. He married Leslee Rae Schultze, also of Elk Grove on Aug. 27, 1978. Steve worked as a farmer in Galt and as a mechanic for the Elk Grove Unified School District before being hired by the Elk Grove Fire Department (later Cosumnes Fire Department), and stayed there until retirement in 2010. He enjoyed a variety of hobbies including white water rafting, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. Steve is survived by his wife Leslee; children Erin Vestal (Chris) and Tommy Horning (Lindsey); granddaughter Harlow Raellyn Vestal; mother Mary Jane; brothers Fred and John Horning; father-in-law Ray Schultze; and sister-in-law Teri Kunz (Jim). He also leaves behind nieces and nephews Bryon Kunz (Marilyn and son Max); Joey Kunz (Ashley and sons Jake and Luke); Justin Horning, Jennifer Horning and Cassiar Ladenburg (Mike and son Jace); and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, LeRoy Horning. Services took place Tuesday at the Harvest Church of Elk Grove.
