About	Published: Tuesday, July 1, 2014 Steven M. Pereira, a longtime resident of Elk Grove, passed away on June 8, 2014, at the young age of 54. He was born in Martinez, California on April 18, 1960 to Shirley M. and Joseph Pereira Jr. Steven moved to Elk Grove in 1970 with his family when his dad Joe started a construction job working on the Folsom South Canal. While attending Elk Grove High School, Steve met his high school sweetheart and soon to be bride, Tamra Lyn Harrison. At age 19, he started a union job working for Elk Grove Meat Company. He and Tamra married in 1985 and began their family in 1990 with their son Dean and then daughter Sarah. Following his job as a union truck driver for the meat company, he began his lifetime career as a heavy equipment operator. He worked hard as a grade setter for many years, mostly in the heat, working continuous hours and days as the seasons and weather permitted. Throughout his years, Steve enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son Dean, friends, and family. They hunted many seasons in California, Wyoming, and Montana. During his later years he spent most of his free time in the Delta fishing, socializing at Romeo's Bait Store, and growing closer to his daughter Sarah. Steve made many friends over the years and showed his love toward them and family through his sense of humor. He will always be remembered as a hilarious prankster, and great storyteller. Steve leaves behind his loving wife of 29 years, Tammy Pereira, his two adult children Dean and Sarah Pereira, sister Diane (Jim) Hunt and brother, William (Cathy) Pereira, his mother Shirley Pereira, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Loving friends and family are invited to a celebration of his life at Wilson Vineyards.
