About	Published: Monday, June 16, 2014 11:54 AM PDT Dale L. Newbold, longtime teacher in the Elk Grove Unified School District died June 11, 2014 at the age of 83. He taught for 35 years in the district, most of the time at Elk Grove High School where his subjects were biology and physiology. He also coached soccer, was advisor to the Roller Skating Club, took tickets and was a Drivers Training instructor. He also taught Drivers Education at Galt High School for several years and in retirement was the owner/instructor of Newbold Driving School. Former students recall lessons in driving given while they drove to his Wilton home to see the monkeys he kept there. Mr. Newbold was born Jan. 17, 1931 in Heber City, Utah, to Melvin E. and Virginia Clegg Newbold. He graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education. While at the Elk Grove Unified School District he served on the Committee for Science Curriculum for the district. His family spoke of him as a man of many talents that including gardening where he discovered a hybrid fruit tree named the Golden Marvel. He was a poet and artist and co-authored and illustrated a children’s book, “Funny Friends” with his late brother Noal C. Newbold. He was also a fast-pitch softball baseball position catcher, and a member of the Elk Grove Jaycees. Besides his brother Noal, Mr. Newbold was preceded in death by siblings Darlene Dickson, Ruth, Rose, Darrel and Bruce Newbold and Carladene Jones; and son Val J. Newbold. He is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Frances Jackman Newbold; children Dale F. Newbold, Chris A. Newbold and wife Melanie, Brenda Newbold, Lauralyne Newbold Chord and husband Chris, Nancy Newbold, d’Artagnan Newbold and wife Kay, and Troy A. Newbold and wife Ashlee; 32 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was the brother of Melvin E. Newbold, Jr. and father-in-law of Lisa Newbold Stevens. There will be a viewing this morning (Wednesday, June 18) from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the LDS Church, 8925 Vintage Park Drive off Elk Grove-Florin Road followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m. at the church. Arrangements are by Herberger’s Elk Grove Funeral Chapel. - Information from the Elk Grove Citizen Elk Grove High School teacher, Dale LeRoy Newbold, of Wilton, CA passed away June 11, 2014. He was born January 17, 1931 to Melvin Ezra Newbold and Virginia Clegg Newbold in Heber City, UT. Dale graduated from South High in SLC, UT, and received a BS degree in 1955 from University of Utah. He married Frances Jackman August 21, 1950. Dale Newbold taught at Elk Grove High School for most of his 35 year teaching career. He is survived by his wife, 7 children, 32 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son.
