About	RAU, Sr., Philip Victor 'Vic' March 7, 1926 - March 23, 2013 Descendent of Germans from Russia, Philip Victor Rau was born in Orland, California to Philipp Rau who immigrated from Dinkel, Russia and Paulina (Kluck) born in South Dakota to GR parents. A resident of Reno, Nevada, Vic passed away in Newport, Oregon at the home of his son. Vic was raised in the California counties of Sacramento and San Joaquin. Days after his 17th birthday, Vic enlisted in the US Marine Corps. Assigned to the 3rd Marine Division, Vic saw action in the Pacific Theater, including the second battle of Guam. In the 'Class of 44' Vic received his diploma from Elk Grove High School, Elk Grove, CA upon his discharge from the service. He retired from the Sacramento Army Depot in 1974 where he worked in Electronics Maintenance. In 1971 he met and married Beatrice and they would share next 40 devoted years together. Vic and Bea traveled extensively, working at resorts and vacation destinations. They settled in Reno, Nevada in 1989 where Vic found employment with Harrah's Corporation. In 1992, in a drawing sponsored by John Ascuaga's Nugget, Vic and Bea won a new home where they enjoyed many happy years. Vic enjoyed family, traveling in his fifth wheeler, bartering, fishing, hunting and tending his garden. He took great pleasure in passing on a skill and family tradition learned from his father. That of smoking fish, homemade sausage and a variety meats in an old converted refrigerator. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Beatrice Amelia (nee Winsor); sons, Philip Victor Rau Jr., Larry Victor (infant); brothers, Alvin and Arnold; sisters, Ella Lippert, Edna Rau, Marie Pollock, Lillian Loverde, and Gladys Crary, and lovingly spoiled cat Smokey. Survived by daughter Sharen Denham (Robert), son, Richard Rau (Laurie) from his first marriage to Lillian Earl. Also survived by daughter-in-law, Cathy Rau (nee Milroy), sister, Ruby Pabst; grandchildren, Karalee Greenawald (Jim), Ashley Rau and Jason Rau; plus great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He also leaves Bea's children Marjorie Register and Gloria Cook (David); sons, John Brunfeldt (Karen) and Charles Brunfeldt (Jullia). Predeceased by son Robert Register (Susan).
