About	Published: Monday, March 10, 2014 in the Elk Grove Citizen Jane Elizabeth Strong Crump, a lifelong resident of Elk Grove died March 5, 2014 at the age of 76. She was born to James and Eleanor Strong and grew up here, graduating from Elk Grove High School in 1955 where she was the yearbook editor. That same year she married her grammar school sweetheart, Richard Derr Crump and the newlyweds lived on the Crump Ranch (now the Cosumnes River Preserve) before moving into town on Derr Street. She was well-known for her cooking skills developed as a girl when she fed large groups of farm workers and crews from the road camp, now known as the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center. This talent came in handy when she found herself feeding four sons and all of their friends. Her family said Jane was a popular den mother for the Cub Scouts and a loyal fan, supporting “her boys” at all of their sporting events. “She made double header baseball games and football road trips a fantastic experience, whipping out her picnic lunches that just happened to be big enough to feed the whole team and their parents.” Jane also worked for many years at J.M. Derr Lumber Company with her husband, mother-in-law Jessie Mae Crump, sister-in-law Carole Crump, brother-in-law Dale Crump and all of her sons. Richard died in 1987 after 31 years of marriage. Jane married Jay Camp of Elk Grove who died in 2001. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy Strong. Jane is survived by her sons, Chester “Chet” James, Mark Victor and wife Cindy, Robert “Bobby” Shawn and wife Lynette, and Richard “Ricky” Irvie and wife Jana, all of whom still live in Elk Grove. She leaves 11 grandchildren: Wendi Mitchell (Scott), Joe, Chris, Tyler, Drake (Sylvia), Allie, Denae, Ashley, Dalton, Tori and Michael Crump; and great-granddaughter Charlotte, all of Elk Grove. Jane was the sister of Jerry Strong and wife Jeanne and Jackie Connolly and husband Bill. A celebration of her life will take place Friday, March 14 at 11 a.m. at Herberger's Elk Grove Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd. A reception will follow at the home of Jerry and Jeanne Strong, 8941 Bond Road.
