About	Passed away on January 7, 2013. Ben was born in Florin, CA on March 4, 1921. He graduated from Elk Grove High School. He was relocated to Manzanar in 1942. In 1944 he was drafted into the Army and served in Japan. Following his tour of duty he continued in Japan for three more years as a member of the occupation forces. In 1951 he started his career at the Sacramento Army Depot and retired after 33 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and gardening and always had tasty produce from his garden that he shared with family and friends. He was a long time member of the Sacramento Japanese United Methodist Church. Ben was a beloved father to daughters Lucille Sakakihara (Ernest Lehr) and Diane Sakakihara. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Tom and Alice Sakakihara, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Shirley and Tomio Ito, sister-in-law Blanche Sakaoka, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Sumiko and son Michael. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on January 19, 2013 at the Sacramento Japanese United Methodist Church, 6929 Franklin Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to SJUMC. - Information from the Sacramento Bee
