About	Pete passed away at home of pancreatic cancer on September 2, 2012 at the age of 81. He was born on Aug. 9, 1931 in No. Dakota, the only son of August and Carrie Peterson. When he was 7, his family moved to California and settled in the Florin area. Vernon graduated from Elk Grove High School in 1951. In 1948 he became the first volunteer of the Florin Fire Dept. When he left there in 1957 he was Asst. Chief. For the next 33 years, he wore many hats associated with fire services, and in August 1990, he retired from El Dorado County as Deputy Director of Emergency Services. For the last 5 and a half years, he was a board member of the Florin County Water District. Pete is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Margaret; his children by a previous marriage: Vern Peterson, Robin Heuser (Chip), Becky Vatalaro (Julius) and Melissa Valentine (David). Also survived by 6 step-children: Jeff Woody (Michelle), Kevin Woody (Denise), Shawna Adrien (Mark), Kim Martin (Mike), Brett Woody (Lori) and Eric Woody. Pete was also blessed with 10 grandchildren, 26 step-grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren. He is also survived by one aunt, one uncle, several cousins and his brother-in-law Howard Triebwasser. Preceded in death by his parents August and Carrie Peterson and his sister Pearl Triebwasser. Pete had 22 years of retirement enjoying his favorite hobbies: elk and deer hunting, fishing, photography, stained glass work, traveling with his wife in their fifth wheel, gardening and cooking. Friends and family benefited from his beautiful stained glass and the yummy jam he made. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. - Information from the Sacramento Bee
