About	George, 83 a life long Dairyman grew up in Elk Grove on Sheldon's Mooney Road, named after his father. He graduated from Elk Grove High School and took over his family's dairy at the age of 17. His great passion for agriculture and rural living was passed on to his family. He served in the U.S. Military in the Korean War and later met his wife, Susan Culbard in 1955. He was active in the community and church volunteer. He served as a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus. His good friend Jerry Strong nicknamed him "Garlic Bread George" and they catered numerous community events. He was also a famous bingo caller since he had a booming voice that didn't need a microphone to reach players. During retirement, George still bailed hay with his life long friend, Jim Boras and when he was later unable to be physically active in agriculture, he still reminisced about tending his cows and cutting his fields. Relatives wrote to the Citizen that George's legacy will live on in his recipes for garlic bread and chocolate-chip cookies, "infamous stories," and the blooming of the 70 rose bushes that surround his home, each a birthday or anniversary gift for his wife. One relative wrote, "For George, a handshake was as good as a contract, and he'd give you the shirt off his back even if he needed it for himself." George is survived by his wife, Susan, brother Chris (Harriet); sisters Bertha Mooney and Annabelle (Bill) Isherwood; four children Stephen, Patrick (Pam), Hugh, and Kathleen; and four grandchildren Colleen, Michael, Veronica, and Mary. Preceded in death by his sister Mary Mooney. Friends were invited to visitation from 1:00 to 9:00 pm for Vigil Service, Wednesday May 11, 2011 in the Chapel of Herberger's Funeral Chapel, 9101 Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove, Ca. and Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday, May 12 at noon in St. Josephe's Catholic Church, 9961 Elk Grove-Florin Road, Elk Grove, Ca.
