About Maxine passed away after a short stay at Mercy General Hospital.
Born November 8, 1933 and raised on the Wilton Indian Rancheria in Wilton, California to parents Colonel and Bernice Brown. She is survived by her children, sons David, Jr., James, and Norman Franklin of Sacramento, daughter Rhonda Franklin and Fiance James Allman (J.D.) of Natomas. Grandchildren Dalin Franklin of Las Vegas, Nevada, Cynthia, Cliff, Brittany Castleberry of Sacramento and twins William and Angelica Franklin of Wilton. Great-grandchildren Aleshanee and Calian Oseguera. Formerly married to David Franklin, Sr. Preceeding her death were her parents and sibilings Cora Franklin, Wilmer David and Myron Brown, sons Ivan and Ronny Franklin.
She attended Dillard Elementary in Wilton and graduated from Elk Grove High School.
Upon her retirement from Sacramento Army Depot she was presented with the American flag flown over the U.S.Capitol at the request of Congressman Robert Matsui. She was presented with the flag and plaque with the dates of service April 24, 1955 - April 1995. She was a member of the Round Valley Indian Reservation tribial affiliations Concow, Yuki, and Littlelake. The last decade of her life she worked endlessly as treasurer for the Wilton Rancheria to regain federal status and re-recognition. Maxine's family was one of the original families to occupy the rancheria upon establishment on November 25, 1927 for landless Indians in California. Wilton Rancheria regained federal status in 2009. She was devoted to her children and always stood by them. Her real enjoyment was her grandchildren, she attended all their sporting events, traveling the nation with her girls playing softball. She loved her time with the twins and their sleepovers with Grandma.
Memorial services were provided by W.F.Gormley & Sons, 2015 Capitol Avenue, Sacramento. Funeral was held Wednesday, February 17 at 11:00am. Cheewa James officiated. Internment followed immediately at Camellia Memorial Lawn, 10221 Jackson Road, Sacramento, California 95827.
What she will be remembered for is that beautiful smile. She walked with dignity and beauty. - Information from the Elk Grove Citizen.
