About | Aldena passed away peacefully at home after a long and courageous battle with COPD. She was born in Santo, Texas on August 10, 1936, moved to San Diego, California, and eventually to Sheldon on 1946 when she was 10 years old. She was preceded in death by parents Alfred Lee Steen and Bessie Mable Sparks and her high school sweetheart and beloved husband of 57 years, James (Jim) O. Hensley. Aldena was a devoted and loving mother to her son James Allen Hensley, daughters Diane Richey and Sandra Nelson. She was the proud grandmother of Rachael Gonzales, Clint Webber, Lisa Escobar, and Travis Thrasher. She is also survived by two brothers Kenneth Steen of Fair Oaks and Alfred Steen of Plymouth, three great-grandchildren Lucas and Lillian Gonzales, Dominick Escobar, nieces Pamela Johnston, Aleda Phillips, Shannon Klun, Elisa Kratzer, and Debra Washburn, nephew Dan Steen and many friends. Aldena attended Pleasant Grove Elementary and Elk Grove High School. She worked for Grant Union School District and was great contractor along side her husband for many years. After retiring, the couple traveled the United States and abroad - Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji - where "they fell in love all over again." Aldena had a passion for gambling, quilting, sewing, gardening, family gatherings, friends, and vacations. She was warm, loving, had a great sense of humor, and left an imoression on everyone she met. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to all who have given of thenselves selfishly during this difficult time. A celebration of her life was held on Wednesday, Jabuary 12, 2011 at 2:00pm at East Lawn Mortuary, 5757 Green back Lane, Sacramento, California.
