About Holly (65), a fifth generation native of Sacramento County, passed away after a lengthy illness. For more than 65 years, Holly lit up the lives of the people she loved and, often, the lives of complete strangers who were charmed, amused, and stimulated by this energetic, positive, force of nature.
The eldest of three children, Holly was born April 12, 1945, in Elk Grove, California to Sue and George Morse. As a sophomore theatre major at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, she spent a semester abroad with the USO entertaining servicemen through out Asia. This experience opened her eyes yo new cultures and the thrill of travel. Her post-graduate employment includes stints as a restaurant manager and a field director for the Girl Scouts of America. She also continued preforming and added her directorial touches to a full scale musical, "A Woman Got It Done, " based on the life of her grandmother Barbara Comstock Morse, with book, music, and lyrics written by her father George. Throughout her life she remained passionate about, and supportive of, the arts. She served on the Board of Trustees and as a committee chair of the Sacramento Theatre Company and became one of its most ardent ambassadors. She invited friends and loved ones to share the joy she took in plays, art shows, concerts, lectures, ballets, and festivals.
Following her marriage to Joseph Coomes in 1985, Holly and Joe traveled extensively both for pleasure and in conjunction with his law practice. These trips took her throughout the US and to 34 foreign countries, including multiple visits to England, Greece, Italy, and France. The couple formed lasting friendships with people from all over the world and every walk of life.
Holly will be remembered for her wide smile, her insatiable curiosity, and her talent for making everyone in her life feel important, wanted, and completely necessary. her warmth was palpable and those she leaves behind will seek solace in the memory of her incandescent spark and glow.
