About Harold, 47, a native of the Franklin area of Elk Grove succumbed to cancer after a lengthy battle.

He was born in Sacramento on October 11, 1963 to Edwin F. and Grace Zgraggen of Franklin, California. His birth was recorded in the Elk Grove Citizen by reporter Bernice Gallup and reads as follows:
"The news gathering staff in the Edwin Zgraggen home on Bilby Road has been increased by one, bringing the total of cub reporters to five. The latest, a baby boy much to the disappointment of daughter Joan, 5, who is sadly out numbered, was born to Elk Grove Citizen Franklin correspondent Mrs. Grace Zgraggen on Friday, October 11, 1963, in Mercy General Hospital. He weighed in at 6 pounds and 15 ounces and is named Harold."
Harold attended Franklin Elementary and graduated from EGHS in 1983, where he was a member of 4-H Club and Future Farmers of America. After working on ranches in Nevada, in 1988 he went into the heifer business with his father. He grew to be a farmer who was known for his work in his family's hay processing business.
Preceded in death by his father Edwin and brother Frank. He is survived by his mother Grace; brothers Raymond (his caregiver), Edwin, and Eric; sister Joan; uncles Manual Peters and Dan Davis; aunts Elizabeth Simoes and Dolores Peters; godmother Louise Schultz; as well as nieces, nephews and a great many friends.
A rosary for the repose of his soul was recited on December 17th at 7pm at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 9961 Elk Grove-Florin Road. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00am the next day at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and was presided over by officiate Father Martin Brusato. Internment was at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at 6700 21st Avenue in Sacramento and a luncheon followed at the Portuguese Hall in Elk Grove. Remembrances could be made in his name to Mercy Hospice, St. Joseph's Catholic Church or charity of choice. - Information from the Sacramento Bee and the Elk Grove Citizen.
