About | Descendant of the California Pioneer Graham and Foulks families who settled in the Elk Grove area in 1849 and 1853 respectively. Mary was born in Sacramento on July 31, 1914 to the late Guy G. and L. Elizabeth "Bess" Foulks. She was raised with her brother George and sister Hazel on the Foulks Ranch in Elk Grove. Mary graduated from Elk Grove High School in 1931, Sacramento Junior College in 1933, and University of California in Berkeley in 1935. Mary met her future husband Jack Elwin Mauger at SJC; they attended Cal together and married April 11, 1936. They were married for 57 years until Jack's death in 1993. Mary began her teaching career at Elk Grove Grammar School in 1944 and completed her career teaching Physical Education at Grant High School in 1965. Many of her students became life long friends and spoke of her lasting affect on their lives. During that time she took a three-year hiatus from teaching to open "Major Fashions," Elk Grove's first women's apparel store that eventually became the Elk Grove Department Store. Mary and Jack were long time members of Valley-Hi Country Club. She was active with the Children's Home Society for many years, "The Bridge Club That Doesn't Play Bridge" for 60 years, Golfing Guys and Gals, Fremont Presbyterian Church, Elk Grove Historical Society, and Sacramento Pioneer Association. She and Jack were avid Cal Bear fans and Track and Field aficionados. In retirement, Mary and Jack traveled all over the world, played lots of golf, skied many mountains, enjoyed their summer home at Soda Springs, and loved being with family and friends. They had a great life together. In 1997, Mary moved to Eskaton Village in Carmichael where she resided until her death at age 96. The family particularly wishes to thank the Eskaton Village Care Center Staff for the loving care given Mary during those last few years. Mary is survived by her daughters Marylin M. McInnes, Jackyln M. Linn (Ed), foster son Al Baeta (Patty), grandchildren Kristyn McInnes Osborn, Geoffrey McInnes (Lisa), Peter McInnes, Karin Linn-Nieves (David), Michael Linn (Elaine), Brian Lin (Tina), Jon Baeta (Julie), Michael Baeta, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, her sister Hazel Wicket, and several nieces and nephews. Mary will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
