About	Jim passed away unexpectedly and far too soon for all of us who loved him. Jim was born in 1946 in Ohio, then went to New York State as a baby until he was 11 years old. He left the East and then became a true Californian from that time on. He attended Elk Grove schools and later Sacramento City Collage. He served in the U.S.Army as a muscian and was stationed in Germany serving with the U.S.Army Band. He had recently retired after many years of selling audio equipment and then European cars. Jim loved life, music, laughter, good food and wine, and most of all, he adored his family and friends, loving us wholeheartedly and unconditionally. He was "as friendly as a speckled pup," loved being silly for the grand-kids, opening doors for the ladies, telling corny jokes, and gave the best hugs ever. He is survived by his wife and soul mate, Margie, his beloved daughters: Heather Whiting (Travis) and Julia Smith: his cherished sons: Jon, Jay (Vicki), Matthew (Heather) and Andrew (Shelly), Coultier and by all his grandchildren, Devon, Ariana, Kayla, Brandon, Abbie, Brayden, Alivia, Avery, Korie, Julian, and Coty, in addition to his mother, Louise Smith, his sister Marlene Goetz-Brown (Norm), his brother Walter Smith (Elaine), and numerous Nieces and nephews. A memorial celebration of Jim's life was held on August 22 at 2:00pm at the Elks Lodge, 5531 Cypress Way, Carmichael, California.The family asks as a tribute to Jim, please do a random act of kindness in his honor as he was the epitome of kind- heartedness. - Information from the Sacramento Bee, July 26, 2010
