About | A Mass of Christian burial was held on July 14th for Jessie Moreno (64), a native of Elk Grove, who died from complication due to diabetes, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 29, 1946 in Elk Grove and grew up here. He Graduated from Elk Grove High School and served with the U.S.Army during the Vietnam War. He was a roofer, last employed by Allied Roofing in Sacramento before retiring 12 years ago. His family said they knew him as "The Bear." He loved to eat black pepper...we'd ask him, 'Do you want some food with that pepper?' He was an avid sports fan, particularly the Raiders, and coached the Luna's Barber Shop baseball team for years. He also loved hot rods and looked forward to the Autorama every year." "He loved to play baseball, his position was pitcher for Elk Grove High School. He liked to play pool at the Ponderosa. He loved all sports! He always had a nice car or truck, he took pride in that." Mr. Moreno was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine and Salvador Hernaes. He is survived by his eight siblings, Martina (Pete), Henry (Sally), Jack (Christina), Ron (Ursula), Jerry (Yolanda), Connie (Danny), Gary (Keith), and Ernie (Sonya), and numerous family and many friends. A viewing was held Tuesday, July 13th at 5:00 pm with a Rosary following at 6:00pm.The Mass was held at 10:00am at St. Rose's Catholic Church at 5961 Franklin Blvd., Sacramento, California. Internment was at St. Mary's Cemetery followed by a reception at the VFW Hall at 2784 Stockton Blvd. in Sacramento. - Information from the Elk Grove Citizen and Sacramento Bee. |
