About Stan passed away at Hospice House in Paradise, California following a lengthy battle with lung cancer and COPD. A third generation California, Stan was born February 25, 1923 and raised on a table-grape farm in Sacramento County. His maternal ancestors came to Sacramento by wagon train in the 1850's, followed by his paternal ancestors in the1870's.
After graduating from Elk Grove High School, he attended Sacramento City College for one year before being drafted into military service. He trained to be an electrical instrument technician in the Army Air Corps and then entered the Army Specialization Training program. After three semesters of basic engineering at Princeton University in New Jersey, the program was terminated; he was then sent to field artillery school as a target plotter for 55mm Howitzers. The Army Air Corps retrieved him back and shipped him overseas where he served as an aircraft and engine mechanic in the 1304th Air Transport Command at Barrackpore, near Calcutta, India. Discharged in 1946, he went to work for United Airlines in South San Fransisco but didn't care for the Bay area so returned to Sacramento and went to work for Pacific Bell. He met and married his second wife Carllene, while both were working in the Outside Plant Engineer Department. In 1987 Stan retired as facility administrator after 40 1/2 years of service. While raising his children, he served as PTA president, co-chair of the Campground Committee Campfire Girls of America, and as a Little League Manager. he played golf with a passion for many years until declining health interfered. Spending time with family, reading, listening to Dixieland and Ragtime music, and traveling were his favorite pastimes. He and Carllene visited every state except Hawaii and all the National Parks accessible by automobile. Before moving to Magalia in 1989 they were volunteer workers for the annual Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society Jubilee. Stan joined SIRS 82 in 1990 and served on the House and Luncheon committee for three years. He was a member of the China Burma India Veterans Association (disbanded in 2005) and Retired Telephone Pioneers. Stan was predeceased by his parents Charles B. Feil and Olive Ruth Hanlon and granddaughter Shiela Scott. He's survived by the love of his life and wife of of 25 years, Carllene Marek. He leaves behind many fond memories in the hearts of his children. Megan Feil of Tacoma, Washington, Nola Minerva (Johnnie) of Yuba City, California, Ramona Guy of Marysville, California, Stuart Feil of Mountlake Terrace, Washington, Stacey Dinwiddie (Bryan) of Litchfield, Maine and step-children, Don Williams (Susan) of Athens, Oregon, June Williams and Connie Lewis both of Aurburn, California. He also leaves seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; sister Norma Drake (Garry Long) and nephews Rod (Brooke) Drake and Mark (Esperanza) Drake. According to Stan's wishes, his remains were cremated and will be scattered. A celebration of his life was held at a later time. - Information from the Sacramento Bee
