Date of Passing Jul 10, 2008
About Bill Mosher, longtime Elk Grove rancher and community supporter, passed away at the age of 83.
He was born January 10, 1925 in Clarksburg to William and Rosalyn Mosher and mover to the current family ranch on Grantline Road in 1937 at the age of 12. He graduated from Elk Grove High School in 1943.
He was a third generation California farmer and told of his grandfather, William Mosher at one time being the largest bean farmer "in the world." Bill was a sheepherder, dairyman, horseman, and cattleman who enjoyed raising paint and quarter horses on the ranch. He was also an avid sportsman and outdoors man.
He was honored by the Mexican government through the Consulate General in Sacramento for his contributions to the betterment of the immigrant agricultural working communities during these last 40 years within Sacramento County.
His community involvement included being a member of the Native Sons of the Golden West, a key founder of the Elk Grove Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, a supporter of the Mercy Foundation, Elk Grove FFA, Project Ride, recreational opportunities for Kids With Cancer, and former board member of AFCS.
He was active in local politics, supporting many politicians and businesses here and was an honorary Deputy Sheriff.
"I admire him for his solid stand on issues that meant so much to him, including standing firm on keeping the Cosumnes River in its natural state," Elk Grove Citizen CEO Roy Herburger said.
His family and friends commented on how much he loved entertaining and having big parties at the ranch. "He always made sure everyone was well entertained and well fed. Bill loved life, laughter, and all of the many friends he made throughout his lifetime. Everyone will remember Bill for his quick wit and generous heart. - Information from the Elk Grove Citizen
