About A lifelong resident and ubiquitous volunteer in the Elk Grove area, Mrs. Hrepich died after a series of recent strokes.
"Everyone's friend" and a "tireless volunteer" were some of the remarks describing Mrs. Hrepich when she was choosen as Citizen Of The Year in1987.
Some of her volunteer activities included the Elk Grove Historical Society where she served as president, Elk Grove Art Club and Wilton Garden Club. She also sewed costumes for the annual Strauss Festival of Elk Grove since its inception in 1987, and was the first president of the Joseph Kerr Middle School PTA in 1963. Mrs. Hrepich was a faithful member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elk Grove. She was a choir member and director, president of the Altar Society, helped organize parish festivals and always taught religious education, including a young Don Nottoli.
In 1973 she organized the Marthas, a group of women who provided services to bereaved families of St. Joseph's. A year later she arraigned and taught non-denominational religious classes at the Elk Grove Congregational Church for children of Jesse Baker School.
Mrs. Hrepich was born on January 12, 1927 in Elk Grove, one of five children to Harry and Ruth Jordan. Harry was a backhoe operator and Ruth worked at a bank. She grew up in Wilton and graduated from Elk Grove High School in 1944.
In 1946 she married Paul Hrepich and that union lasted 60 years until Paul's death in 2006.They owned and operated the Royal Oaks Dairy, located where the Elk Grove Auto Mall now is, for more that half a century. Paul was also director of Transportation Safety for the Elk Grove Unified School District for approximately 20 years.
The couple didn't confine their community service to Elk Grove and Wilton, but also supported projects nationwide such as the Christian Appalachian project.
The Cosumnes Community Services District recognized the couple's contributions and dedicated the "Paul and Dorothy Hrepich Park" to them in 1998. The park is located on Black Kite Drive.
"Everyone was her friend," said her daughter Kathy. "She was the glue of our family, but she was also the glue of everything she was involved in." "My mother was a wonderful lady and my hero," her daughter Diane said. "We are so honored that so many people want to honor her."
Besides her husband, Mrs. Hrepich was preceded in death by her son-in-law Rich Baroni and Grandson Johnny Hardesty.
She is survived by her children, Kathy Hrepich and husband Joseph of Sacramento, Diane Hrepich of Elk Grove, Cindy Hrepich of Wilton, Vince Hrepich and wife Deborah of Ione, and Angela Hardesty and husband Chuck of Afton, Wyoming; grandchildren Paul Ronau (Brandi), Nicola Allen (Bryce), Mattew Ronau (Heather), Kerstin Robbins, Michael Robbins (Jackie), Danette Hrepich Nelson, Justin Robbins (Maggie), Shelly Morford (Scott), Jenna Hrepich Kumar (Vineet), Charles Hardesty, Victor Hardesty (Dani), and Leslie Hardesty.
Mrs. Hrepich was the sister of Hazel Smith of Galt and Harry Jordon of Carson City, Nevada, and great-grandmother of 19. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements where made by Herberger's Funerl Chapel. A funeral Mass was held on April 13th followed by interment at St. Mary's Cemetery in Sacramento.
