About	John Newman Obituary John Ralph Newman, 77, of Sacramento, CA, passed away on February 11, 2024. He was born on June 17, 1946 in Lynwood, CA. John was a beloved husband to Kathleen Newman and a loving father to his son, James Serr. John was preceded in death by his mother, Verna V. Newman, and his father, Ralph Newman. John had a passion for fishing and enjoyed spending time with his buddies on fishing trips. However, his true joy came from cooking and BBQ. He was known for his famous purple chicken recipe, which will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of tasting it. John was a graduate of Elk Grove High School and later pursued higher education at UC Davis. He served in the Army for four years, where he developed a strong sense of discipline and dedication. In his professional life, John held various roles that showcased his diverse skills and commitment. He managed and tended bar at the Circus Tent Bar for several years. He then dedicated 18 years of service to the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency, where he excelled in multiple duties such as maintenance, inspections and lead testing. Additionally, John served in several other capacities within the agency. He also played a vital role as the Vice President of the Florin Historical Society, contributing significantly to the society’s revitalization at its current location. Outside of his work, John indulged in his hobbies, which included fishing, cooking and camping. These activities brought him immense joy and allowed him to create lasting memories with loved ones. A ceremony to honor John’s life will be held on March 3, 2024, at 12:00 pm at the Florin Historical Society located at 7145 McComber Street, Sacramento, CA. John will be interred at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA.
